What's new?

Consumption of date palm is safe and exerts a positive effect on sexual function of infertile couples.

A double-blind, placebo-controlled clinical trial demonstrated that using date palm capsules for one month leads to significant improvement in sexual function parameters of infertile couples without eliciting any adverse effects. This study aimed to determine date palm's effect on the sexual function of 128 infertile couples. The intervention group (64 couples) received a palm date capsule and the control group (64 couples) received placebo.

Utilizing the female sexual function index and International Index of Erectile Function, collection of data was done. The total score of sexual function of females in the intervention arm raised considerably from 21.06 ± 2.58 to 27.31 ± 2.59. Furthermore, other areas of sexual function in females (painful intercourse, arousal, orgasm, satisfaction, lubrication) in the intervention group demonstrated a considerable improvement versus females in the control group.

In comparison with the control group, the intervention group demonstrated a remarkable improvement in all the parameters of male sexual function (overall satisfaction, erectile and orgasmic function, sexual desire, intercourse satisfaction). Thus, date palm appears to be beneficial for the management of infertility.
