This study was carried out to explore efficacy of HCII supplement to reduce joint stiffness and pain and increase joint movement.
Daily intake of hydrolyzed chicken
collagen type II (HCII) supplement for eight weeks led to a substantial decline
in joint pain and stiffness and enhanced mobility.
This study was carried out to
explore efficacy of HCII supplement to reduce joint stiffness and pain and
increase joint movement.
The study recruited adults who witnessed
joint-associated discomfort without any comorbidities and who did not consume
any pain medicines. In this double-blind, randomized, placebo-controlled trial,
participants (age 40-65, 65.5% females) were randomized to receive either
placebo (n = 43) or HCII supplement (n = 47) for eight weeks. The Western
Ontario and McMaster Universities Arthritis Index (WOMAC) survey was given with
three extra wrist-associated questions and the Visual Analog Scale (VAS) to
determine joint-associated symptoms at baseline and at weeks four and eight.
In comparison with the placebo group, the HCII group displayed a considerable decline in joint-associated discomforts in the overall WOMAC score and in WOMAC stiffness and physical activity. Table 1 shows the decrease in the overall WOMAC score in the study groups at week 4.
HCII
products can effectively reduce joint stiffness and pain and also improve joint
function in healthy adults.
