Key take away

Migraine is a commonly reported neurological condition that leads to debilitating headaches. Studies have shown the association of Vitamin B2 deficiency with migraine. As per this systematic review and meta-analysis, the use of Vitamin B2 400 mg was found to be effective for migraine.

Background

To study the effect of Vitamin B2 on the duration, incidence, and pain associated with migraine.

Method

The Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guideline was used for the studying practice. PubMed, Embase, Cochrane, CINAHL, and CEPS were explored with the search terms being migraine, Vitamin B2, and prophylactic.

Result

Overall 9 articles were considered for systemic review and meta-analysis. Also, 8 randomized controlled trials and 1 controlled clinical trial with 673 migraine patients were studied via meta-analysis. A significant decrease in days of the migraine, duration, incidence, and pain score was found in patients using Vitamin B2.

Conclusion

As per the pooled analysis of available randomized controlled clinical trials, Vitamin B2 400 mg supplementation when used daily for 3 months had a noteworthy effect on days, duration, incidence, and pain reduction due to migraine.
